I feel like I'm following you and Dave on cafes and diners. Yesterday we wound up at Horne's. Another place filled with locals. I didn't take notes, but just watched and listened. I identify more with "these people," who interact with each other and the waitresses than anyone plugged into phones and laptops at Starbucks, around people but isolated in their "work."

I will always love the image of you and Frank, now stored in my memory, dining in neighborhood cafes, enjoying home-cooked food and absorbing every detail of the setting and the people. My husband always accommodates on trips out: "Hush! I'm trying to hear the people behind me!" "Pull over! I need to take that picture!"

I suspect yours does too! What good men we have, taking care of us writers.

Such a good wake up call. And always good to read your word, Candice. My favorite line is: My husband changed seats with me so I could observe better. But yeah, I don't want to miss the whole either.
