I’m the same way about D.C. When out-of-town visitors come and want to go to the museums, I have a “fast-track” tour: Hope Diamond, ruby slippers, Fonzie’s jacket, the flag, Lincoln’s hat, etc. And yet none of those were my favorites: I loved the Denzel carousel horse displayed in a niche along a staircase, the 1930s kitchen (gone), the Hall of Birds (ditto).

I need to find my D.C., as well. Your comment makes me realize I’ve been a D.C. snob.

It’s so refreshing to see NYC through your eyes. I grew up in a NJ suburb so the City was the go-to place for family and school outings. I lived in the city for 8 years and worked there for a couple of decades. Now I’m a jaded suburbanite who seldom goes in. So I’m glad you have found your New York and let me enjoy it with you.
