Introduction

(Feel free to use this description to introduce Candice)

Candice Ransom can’t remember when she didn’t love books, both reading and writing them. She scribbled her first story in second grade and hasn’t stopped since. The author of more than 150 books, she’s published board books to biographies, picture books to historical fiction, mysteries to nonfiction.

Candice learned to tell stories by listening to her mother recall the “long ago days.” Her struggles with school became the basis for her popular chapter books and middle grade novels, such as Rebel McKenzie.

Her early love of science, from dinosaurs to stars to rocks, has led her to write more than 50 nonfiction books on such subjects as stock car racing, the water cycle, chocolate chip cookies, extinct amphibians, fighter planes, Bigfoot, and more than a dozen biographies.

Candice loves to draw, watch birds, visit science museums, and—more than anything—read. She’s a ninth generation Virginian (on both sides) and many of her books are set in her native state. She lives in Fredericksburg, Virginia, with her husband and two high-maintenance cats, Edison and Faulkner.
